I do not want to discuss how the Bible does not authorize. Liberals are real good at attacking command, example and necessary inference (CENI) but they never seem to get around to showing people just how the Bible authorizes. This is an open invitation to our liberal friends to give evidence of how they arrive at authority.

Ric,
I think you have a valid statement….. but…..is CENI without flaws? I know in one place Paul “commands” men everywhere to lift up Holy hands while praying. If I take CENI as the only method of interpretation, it would mean that we MUST do as Paul “commands” and lift up our hands while we pray.

Ps. also want to tell you I appreciate you guys spending time on my questions when you visited Martinsville on Johnny’s TV program. You dedicated almost an entire show to my questions about baptism.
Randy,
It is not a matter of "flaws" but what is under consideration. For example, one must consider if the passage is using figurative language or not. In 1 Timothy 2:8 Paul is using figurative language per context. By the way, we must "lift up holy hands" when we pray. This is a command. The point, no man can pray acceptable to God if he is not living right before God (cf. 1 Pet. 3:7).
There is a lot more to hermeneutics than just CENI. One must also consider if the passage under consideration is dealing with something permit or not. These and many more questions must be considered before I can arrive at what the Bible authorizes.
For an extensive study of this subject, consider: (1) Hermeneutics by Dungan; (2) Principles of Interpretation by Lockhart; and/or (3) How to Study the Bible by Rhodes.
Randy, it is good to hear from you. I pray that things are going well with you in Martinsville and that you are continuing to grow in grace and the knowledge of the Lord, Jesus Christ.
